Universal Standard–To Know Them Is To Love Them

Have you ever read an article that grabbed your attention and wouldn’t leave you alone? Or heard something that made you realize things just weren’t right and you needed to be part of a solution? Universal Standard is a Fashion House to take note of.

A Little History

I knew I had to be part of a solution after reading a short magazine article. It discussed the difficulty plus size women have finding quality clothing. Most designers and manufacturers seem to think that only size 0-12 women want to dress well, or even deserve to.

It seems I’m in good company. Vogue magazine interviewed Danielle Brooks, and she shared her experiences with sizism. You can read it here. You can also read more about Danielle in In Style, and the line she designed for Universal Standard in here.

The more I paid attention, the more I came to realize I needed to find and then shine a light on the companies that were meeting the needs of 67% of the women in America.

That’s right, over two thirds of the women in the United States wear a size 14 or greater. Plus Size lingerie became my focus. Why?

Well, there are two reasons. First, like most things in life, if you don’t have a good foundation, nothing else really matters. In fashion, if your bra doesn’t support, if it pinches and pokes, who cares how great you look. You feel miserable.

And the truth is, a poorly fitting bra can prevent everything else from looking good. The same goes for all the other pieces in our lingerie drawer.

Second, I love everything lingerie! Lacy bras, sports bras, camisoles, slips, shapewear, stockings, garter belts, silky nighties, flannel jammies…well, you get the idea. There’s nothing better than reviewing these things and the companies that bring them to us, and sharing them with you!

And now, I’m truly excited to be able to tell you about a company that I think you’re going to love, if you don’t already!. The company is Universal Standard.

Who Is Universal Standard

What Polina Veksler and Alexandra Waldman are doing kindles “goose bump” quality excitement. They say it so well, I’m going to quote them for a moment or two.

According to the these two amazing women, they wanted to create a company that was size inclusive.  A place where a size 6 woman, and her size 26 friend or relative could shop at the same place.

Their goal was to break down barriers in the fashion world and bring what they call “fashion freedom” to all women.

They also added something wonderful to the mix.  They call it Fit Liberty.   It lets women shop without worry about fit.

What Is Fit Liberty?

It’s an ingenious idea. I’ve never heard of it before, but I love it. I’m betting you will too. Here’s how Polina and Alex describe it.

If your size changes, they will exchange anything from their core collection free of charge. You just need to return it within a year from the date of purchase.

They’re proud that they’re making shopping fun again, and rightly so!

Have you ever heard of a company doing that for its customers? Tremendous!

They have the most complete size range I’ve seen so far in my search for wonderful plus size collections. Sizes begin with 2XS. In U.S. sizing that’s a 00. The collection goes to 2XL. That’s U.S. sizing 32.

Kiersten Leigh’s Focus

Kiersten Leigh’s focus is lingerie. And, since that includes athleisure wear and sleepwear, we’ll be highlighting everything Universal Standard that fits those two categories. We’ve already updated our athleisurewear and sleepwear articles with pictures of several of their pieces.

Conclusion-What’s In It For You
